2004 - MY TRIP TO THE PHILIPPINES

VIEW FROM TONY'S GUESTHOUSE -- "Downtown" Banaue is the cluster of buildings in the distance. There are noticeably more houses in the Banaue valley today than there were in 1988, particularly along the newly-paved road to the Viewpoint. Electricity reached the Viewpoint about a decade ago, cell phones came to the valley in 2002. But all-in-all Banaue retains its tranquil nature. I came away thinking that if Western civilization were to implode tomorrow, life in Banaue would roll along pretty much as usual.
